Pioneer Day!

Christian and I have made a tradition for Pioneer day! Every year for the past 3 years we have slept over on the parade route for the 24th! We have had a blast doing it! We have the same spot every year, and enjoy ourselves every year!

This year we headed down around 5:30. We laid our blankets down on our spot and then headed to dinner. We went to the Gateway and ate at the Skybox which is very delicious! After dinner we walked around Gateway for about an hour, Christian got a Minnesota Vikings towel and I got a cute tank top from Old Navy.

In previous years they have had an Arts Festival going on at Gallivan Plaza. They have booths, music, and at the end a big fireworks display. Well this year they have started "Twilight Concert Series" (no not the book) And apparently it is HUGE!!! There were so many people there you could barely walk! We decided we would chek it out anyway, so we bobbed and weaved through the crowd, checked out a couple booths, got some snowies, listened to the music a little bit and decided we were done! Worst part! they weren't even going to do fireworks! Super sad day! So, we just decided to head back to our spot!

We got our stuff all set up and ready for the night. We brought games, movies, and a bunch of snacks so we were set! We decided to play Scrabble first, then we watched "Yes Man" on our Laptop. By the end of the movie it was about 1:00am so we decided to try to sleep. Good Luck! When there are a million people walking back and forth talking, music playing form the break dancers across the street, and the "glowstick salesman" yelling every 2 minutes it becomes very difficult to sleep!

Christian slept for about a half an hour and then was wide awake the rest of the night! I slept for about 2 hours. So we ended up taking silly pics to pass the time.

At 5:00am we were starving so we walked down to burger King to get breakfast and a very large diet coke to keep us awake! After Breakfast we set up our chairs on the parade route and watched the 10k runners go past! (I'm still baffled that people run for fun!) It is cool to see the age groups though! Some little kids probably around 10 years ran it, Old men and women probably in thier 70's were running it, and this guy even ran pushing his kids through the race! Pretty cool to see!

Mandy and Troy and Meghann and her boys, and Ashlee all came to meet up with us to watch the parade! Meghann's boys had never been to a parade before! (I know deprived kids huh!) haha! They enjoyed it! Call me crazy but for some reason I really enjoy parades! The floats, the bands, the crazy bike riders, The cops with mustaches on motorcycles, the heat, and especially the pooper scoopers! It is just so much fun! I can't wait to continue this tradition with my kids! I'm glad our friends were able to join us this year! I think the kids really liked it, even though halfway through they both asked to leave! guess everybody isn't as obsessed as me! Oh well!

There were some great floats this year! There were some cool cowgirls standing on top of horses instead of riding them.

Christian really liked the bagpipe marching band.

And my favorite!!! The "Utah Original Float" that included Fry Sauce!!!
I really enjoy our tradition! Even though you don't get much sleep it is super fun! And who doesn't like to watch the parade?!?

Next year, come see us! Or tell us where we can come see you! (We do have clean bathrooms you can use!)
